Das junge Mädchen Chihaya Ayase unterstützt ihre Schwester in ihrem Traum ein Model zu werden wie sie nur kann.
Doch sie beschließt ihren eigenen Weg zu gehen, als im letzten Jahr der Grundschule ein sehr stiller Junge namens Arata Wataya in ihre Klasse wechselt. Arata ist ein exzellenter Karuta-Spieler. Chihaya sah dieses Spiel immer nur als Zeitvertreib an, doch schon bald ist sie von der Wettkampfvariante fasziniert. So beginnt sie ebenfalls Karuta zu spielen und steigert ihr Können kontinuierlich, bis hinein in ihre Highschool-Zeit.
